Lieutenant General, U.S. Marine Corps, Retired

Retired U.S. military general and closing keynote speaker. Reflections on faith, service, and Catholic leadership in the armed forces.

Serving over 39 years in the Marine Corps, Lieutenant General USMC (Retired) John Wissler commanded at every level from platoon to Marine Corps Component command, serving 34 months in combat operations in Iraq. John commanded III Marine Expeditionary Force in Okinawa, Japan; and U.S. Marine Corps Forces Command and Fleet Marine Force, Atlantic. While commanding in Japan, he led U.S. Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Task Forces for typhoon relief in the Philippines, and earthquake relief in Nepal.

Since military retirement in October 2017, John serves as an independent consultant across industry, foreign government, academia, and professional and collegiate sports. Among several ongoing activities, John is a Board Member of the Saint John XXIII Foundation supporting the Archdiocese of the Military Services, USA.

John has a Bachelor of Science in Ocean Engineering; a Master of Science in Engineering Management; and spent a year at The Brookings Institution studying Foreign Policy.
